Born in Paris on May 5, 1958, Aurélien Recoing is an actor, stage director, and filmmaker.
In 2024, he founded Acadia Productions in the United States, a company dedicated to the production of audiobooks, films, and live performances.


He trained at Cours Florent under François Florent, Francis Huster, and Daniel Mesguich, and later at the Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique in Paris with Jean-Pierre Miquel and Antoine Vitez. At the same time, he began working as a puppeteer alongside his father, Alain Recoing.

He has appeared in more than forty stage productions under the direction of major theatre artists, notably Antoine Vitez (Britannicus, Hamlet, Hernani, Le Soulier de satin, Tombeau pour 500,000 soldats) at the Théâtre national de Chaillot. He has also performed at the Théâtre de l’Odéon, the TNP in Villeurbanne, Nanterre-Amandiers, the Théâtre de la Ville, and the Festival d’Avignon.

In 1989, he received the Prix Gérard-Philipe for his performance as Oedipus in Œdipe et les oiseaux, directed by Jean-Pierre Vincent. He subsequently worked with Roger Planchon, Bernard Sobel, Claudia Stavisky, Denis Marleau (Nathan the Wise, Avignon Festival 1997), Christophe Perton, Philippe Lanton, Alain Françon, and toured extensively in France and internationally.

From 2010 to 2012, he was a member of the Comédie-Française, performing Titus in Bérénice and directing The Little Prince at the Studio-Théâtre. He also appeared in the first co-production between the Comédie-Française and France Télévisions, directed by Dominique Cabrera.

In recent years, he has performed in The People by Edward Bond (directed by Alain Françon), The Bridges of Madison County alongside Clémentine Célarié, Phèdre (Seneca) directed by Georges Lavaudant, and The Misanthrope, created at Domaine d’O and later revived at the Théâtre de l’Athénée and on tour (2025–2026).

He has appeared in more than one hundred films under the direction of numerous French and international filmmakers.

Television:
He has appeared in more than fifty television productions.

In August 2023, he appeared in Maraé, directed by Jacques Kugler for OCS and filmed in French Polynesia.
In 2025, he is shooting Monsieur, directed by Méliane Marcaggi for France Télévisions.

Directing and Projects:
In 2019, he directed his first short film, The Rifleman (Un bon tireur), supported by the CNC.
He is currently developing his first feature film, Naked Hands (À mains nues).

He co-directs Phèdre by Yánnis Rítsos with Ann-Sophie Archer and is developing several theatrical and audiovisual projects:
